This step involves collecting publicly available information and internal data, engaging the right subject matter experts (SMEs), and providing background on the scoring methodology to guide the process.

This stage centers on refining responses with targeted guidance, filling information gaps, analyzing competitor submissions, and prioritizing areas that will maximize scoring improvements.

This phase includes engaging with SMEs, reviewing G&A’s proprietary competitive and gap analysis, coaching internal experts, and updating content based on their feedback.

In this final step, G&A secures approvals from legal and SMEs, submits the final document, and addresses any remaining questions.

Understanding the Mission

The CSA is a detailed ESG assessment used by S&P Global to evaluate a company’s sustainability performance relative to peers. Your responses impact your S&P Global ESG Score and determine eligibility for the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), tracked by investors and financial analysts globally.

S&P expects verifiable evidence such as public reports, policies, data dashboards, and third-party verifications. We’ll help match the company’s existing materials to each question and advise on strengthening disclosures.

Unlike other ratings that rely heavily on public data, the CSA allows companies to proactively provide information through a structured questionnaire. This offers more control over what’s evaluated and scored.

We recommend a cross-functional team with clear leads for each topic (e.g., HR, EHS, legal, and finance). We can provide a response tracker and help facilitate internal coordination to keep the submission on schedule.

Ideally, we recommend allowing 6–10 weeks to prepare responses, gather evidence, and go through internal reviews. The official CSA submission window typically runs for about two months.

We offer end-to-end support including question interpretation, response drafting, evidence collection, internal coordination, and quality assurance. Our goal is to make the process more strategic and efficient, and to optimize the final score.

Strong scores typically come from clear, documented policies, KPIs with targets, and consistent external disclosures. We’ll help identify where responses can be improved or reformatted for clarity and impact.
